Engine power utilization is an important metric to monitor when working with our customers. The goal is to reach 80% utilization per machine. Reaching this benchmark results in higher productivity and increased efficiency. Using an advanced telematics system, our Stotz Precision team can monitor horsepower utilization and gain insights to take a farmer’s operation to the next level.

A large farming operation worked with our Stotz Precision specialists to reassess their fleet before a fleet roll of new tractors. This was after our team discovered a 50% utilization on multiple John Deere tractors. When presented with the suggestion to downsize their fleet by 15 horsepower per tractor, to an 8 Series option with lower horsepower, the farmer agreed. This data-based decision successfully elevated their utilization to 65%.

When it came time for the next tractor fleet roll, the farmer sized down another 15 horsepower per tractor. This strategic move positioned their machines at the 80% threshold. Meeting this utilization goal reduced expenses for the farm. At the end of the day, cost savings were $8.50 per hour on their tractors.

Implementing equipment adjustments over time by examining and applying valuable data was key to making this farm’s operation more efficient, productive, and profitable.
